Put the Human into Humanity
I am struck by how covid-19 evokes a sense of detachment in many of us. To protect us we are not allowed to be within 2 metres of one and other, we can not hug each other and the detachment these restrictions are enforcing upon us are unusual human behaviours. I wonder what the long term ramifications will be, I wonder what it will be like in 12 months time, where society will be, how we will feel. The irony for me is the detachment makes me crave human contact more. I heard an expression on TV which was:
“kindness and compassion puts the human into humanity”
This sentence really resonates with me as I believe kindness, compassion and understanding are the cornerstones of life and this distance, which we have to keep between us is preventing part of our humanity to be organic and normal.
Kindness and Compassion
However, kindness and compassion do not require any space or particular distance between people. We can show kindness and compassion to one another when we are 2 metres away or thousands of miles apart. In the times we are living in right now it feels like kindness and compassion are key to keep the human in humanity.
